Hi am interested in buying an Iroquois to live on and sail, can anyone help in suggesting how to convert saloon into a double bed as the berths look small in hulls.

Martes-Catalina Island

Here is a photo of MARTES, Sailcraft number 274, owned by Jim Barden and Lori Klaidman. This photo was taken at Catalina Harbor in the mud flats where an 18 inch draft keeps her one foot off the bottom!  This little place tucked into the already protected cove is one of the best reasons to [...]

Mk2a Rudder Repair

This Post courtesy of Jim Barden. Many again thanks Jim… While in Catalina [three years ago] I dove MARTES to see how the new bottom was holding up from the previous work while on the hard.  To my surprise there were 5 inches missing off of the starboard rudder!  This must have happened while surfing [...]

Hi Iroquois Owners, I’ve got the Iroquois bug and am in search of an Iroquois owner that might be considering parting with their beloved catamaran. It seems that the only ones for sell recently in the U.S. are on the East Coast or Hawaii. Would prefer to find one on the West Coast, but would [...]

Rudder 2

New rudders for an Iroquois Mark 2A – part 2   This picture shows one of my new rudders temporarily fitted with its lifting blade and mounted on the new starboard rudder post. The shape of the new rudder blades required some thought. The lifting blades of a typical Mark 1 Iroquois have an elegant [...]

Rudder 1

(From Martin Corrick) New rudders for an Iroquois Mark 2A – part 1 The Iroquois Mark 2A (my boat, Ambler, dates from 1971) was originally built with longer stern lockers containing two petrol engines with outdrives set into the transoms. Whether any of the boats still have this layout I don’t know, but Ambler’s engines [...]

Does anyone have any knowledge or know anyone that has raised the bridgedeck roof or popped the top. Thank you for any feedback.

I’m selling my boat, here in Hawaii. I have been getting some little things fixed, but am not done so there is a bit of work yet. She is sea worthy, just not sparkleing. For any info see craigslist Kauai “boats”. So far price is 12kUSD or 17K including all new equipment.  Cheers, S. Chapin

any way to ascertain and add to owners list?

Over recent weeks much of this websites software has been updated. The latest one being the ‘theme’ software (4 days ago). I think that I’ve covered all angles and tested everything – however sometimes things slip through. If anyone finds a problem, please let me know (via Comments at the bottom of this Post) and [...]

Iroquois MK2a Drop Board Case Repair

Jim Barden has kindly submitted a further two excellent technical articles about board case and rudder repairs. All of this work was conducted over a 4 year period. Here is the first: From the log of Martes… THE BOARD CASEMENT EDGES: I did what Rod Downing suggested to do with the board cases to reinforce [...]

I must admit that I intended to post here more regularly, but I have been severely distracted this summer by my rudders. My Iroquois, Ambler, is a Mark 2A, which means that it was originally built with skegs and rudders under the hulls, engines (with outdrives) mounted in the stern lockers and twin fuel tanks [...]

Pivot Pin Replacement

This is an excellent technical Post kindly submitted by Jim Barden. There are many photos, so please be patient if the page takes a few seconds to load. Dear IOA Members, I had read many stories by Iroquois owners of problems occurring from the drop board casements; how the drop boards cracked or ripped the outer [...]

Polynesian Voyage

Many thanks to our Hawaiian member Samuel Chapin for providing information about the Pacific Voyagers Polynesian voyage from New Zealand to California (summer 2011). Note. Wikipedia has a detailed entry about Polynesian Navigation. Polynesian voyaging canoes are relevant to modern multihulls because the canoes are the antecedents of today’s catamarans… M.Corrick. These pictures are of [...]

Cheetah

A beautiful picture and short note from an IOA Member in Ireland. Cheetah 304 is an Iroquois Mk2a, with fixed keels, very much a cruiser rather than a racer. We bought her from Gearoid Flanagan in 2007. We are based in Mountshannon on Lough Derg, on the river Shannon, in Ireland. Dermot Mangan
